The Resort
In 2015 João Reis designed a resort from the ground up that integrated perfectly into the environment around it. The emphasis throughout the construction was placed on using natural materials, in addition to decorative elements relating to Azorean traditions.
All of the resort’s gardens are regularly supplemented with new indigenous plant species with the aim of offering a more exclusive atmosphere without interfering with the magnificent natural landscape that characterises the hotel.
In the exterior areas, an enormous saltwater pool, with stone beds inside and a view of the ocean, promises to delight those seeking moments of contemplation; on a wooden deck, built on top of the cliff from which you access the beach, you can enjoy a massage to the sound of the sea; and the sports activities centre is a stimulus to anyone looking for some adventure!

The Mid Atlantic Ridge, a huge underwater volcanic mountain chain runs the entire length of the Atlantic and surfaces in only a few spots, one of these is the Azores, 1300 km west of Lisbon. Azores surf centres on Sao Miguel which is open to most swells and wind patterns, with the only N-facing beach breaks in the chain, which have become a regular contest site for the world’s pros.
The surf that accompanies these islands is powerful, unchartered, and mostly crowdless. The position of the Azores, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, ensures that there is always plenty of swells. The great thing about surfing Sao Miguel is that the island will pick up swell from every direction and there is almost always a surf spot on this island with surf.

The resort offers a total of 14 studios, 7 one-bedroom villas and 9 two-bedroom villas. All the accommodation options have a small, equipped kitchenette, living room and spacious balcony with comfortable armchairs, ideal for observing and absorbing the surrounding nature.
The scent of endemic plants and flowers invades the Garden Villas, which have privileged access to a shared garden with a lake.
The Blue & Green Villas provide a unique experience, with the colours of Azorean nature printed on the balconies. Blue & Green studios have access to a shared swimming pool with climatized saltwater.
Retreat Villas offer the most exclusive comfort of the Resort and the magnificent view that you can enjoy from your private jacuzzi on the terrace.
The Cuisine
With an unforgettable view, Restaurant Santa Bárbara has a new culinary concept that takes you on a journey to the East – from India to Japan – where we unexpectedly discover exotic spices and authentic flavours. All of this is prepared with the necessary homage to the quality of the local food, with Azorean meat and Atlantic fish and seafood heavily represented, along with the freshest of fresh garden produce, aromatic herbs and fruit. It is a way of ensuring a zero food miles approach and extra quality as part of a real “farm-to-table” concept. And this is all accompanied by a list of Portuguese wines (with various Azorean options) and Santa Bárbara Eco-Beach Resort’s own innovative signature cocktails.
Located beside the beach, the laidback Beach Club Santa Bárbara serves light meals and tapas, making it the ideal choice for both a lunch between swims and a drink in the mid-afternoon.

The Farm
Santa Barbara is currently developing an organic farming project for growing its own products. The goal is to supply our restaurants with organic products for competitive prices in exchange for a meal that is incredibly tasty and healthy, while promoting and developing an ecologically and socially responsible consumption, with the aim of integrating it into our entire consumption chain.
