A Private Island Eco Resort in the Banyak Islands

Diamond Island Eco Resort sits on a private and secluded island in the Banyak Islands, a remote archipelago off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Tucked into a safe, protected bay in the middle of the Indonesian National Park, the resort is surrounded by world-class surfing waves and untouched nature. Direct beach access puts the ocean right on your doorstep, while the forests behind are ready to explore on foot.

Surfing sits at the heart of every stay. Free boat trips run daily to the Bay of Plenty and the surrounding breaks, with a cooked lunch served on board, and from April till October the Indian Ocean brings large, consistent swells. Stays are all-inclusive, with packages for surfers, couples and families, and between sessions you can snorkel the reefs or paddleboard through the mangroves. Solar power and rainwater harvesting mean it treads lightly too!

The Resort

Diamond Island Eco Resort sits on a private, secluded island in a safe, protected bay of the Banyak Islands, a remote archipelago off the west coast of Sumatra, in the middle of the Indonesian National Park. Waves break on all sides; the nature around it is untouched, and boat trips head out daily to the Bay of Plenty and surrounding breaks. Beachfront bungalows each come with ocean views, private beach access and a private bathroom.

Stays are all-inclusive, so meals and activities are all taken care of. Sustainability runs through the whole property: the bungalows are built from locally sourced materials, rainwater harvesting supplies fresh water and solar energy powers operations. Composting, waste separation and recycling systems are all in place on the island; the resort aims to keep single-use plastics to a minimum, and food and services come from nearby vendors, so your stay gives a little back to the islands around you!

Surfing at Diamond Island Eco Resort

Free boat trips run every day to the Bay of Plenty and the surrounding surf breaks, and the schedule is unlimited, so you can head out as often as conditions invite. There is also the option to go to Bangkaru to surf outer reef breaks such as Treasure Island and Cobras, and the surfing package includes 2 weekly trips there, taking in Treasure, Cobras and Turtles. From April till October the Indian Ocean brings large, consistent swells, with peak season in the Southern Hemisphere winter from June to September, when swells are at their most consistent and southeast winds prevail. The shoulder and off seasons are popular with return visitors who enjoy glassier conditions, smaller swells and fewer crowds.

Surf trips come with a guide to all the local breaks, and a cooked lunch is served on the boat so you can stay out on the water between sessions. All boats are equipped with EPIRBs (satellite SOS beacons) and life jackets and have new motors, and additional trips can be arranged for a small fee. On the family package, shortboards, mini mals and soft tops are provided, giving the whole family a choice of boards.
