Epic Catskiing in the Powder Highway of British Columbia!
Located along the renowned Powder Highway near the iconic ski town of Rossland, BC, Big Red Cats offers both single and multi-day trips and it’s the only cat skiing operation in BC to offer separate trips for Expert, Advanced, and Intermediate skiers and riders.
Cat skiing and boarding with Big Red Cats delivers it all – fresh tracks, deep powder, and zero lift lines!
Mountains & Terrains
Big Red Cats spans 20,000 acres across 8 peaks, offering some of the world’s finest glade and tree skiing. This diverse terrain allows for tailored trips based on skill levels, with options for Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, and even an “Uber Expert” level for those craving the ultimate adrenaline rush.
Experts will enjoy super steep terrain, pillows, and cliffs, while Intermediates can relax in spacious bowls and widely spaced trees, free from pressure. The wide-open powder canvases are ideal for those new to powder skiing or riding.
As one of the largest cat skiing operations globally, Big Red Cats boasts over 700 named runs, 220 km of snowcat roads, and 47 drainages, each with 5-15 runs. Most runs offer vertical drops of 1,000 to 1,400 feet, making for an exhilarating ride through pristine backcountry.
The Package
Big Red Cats is one of the largest cat skiing operations in the world, operating 10 snowcats – 6 with passenger boxes and several dedicated to road building. During peak periods, they typically run 5 snowcats daily, each equipped with two trained and certified guides: a lead guide and a tail guide, ensuring the group’s safety throughout the day.
Every guest is provided with top-quality backcountry gear, including a backpack, shovel, probe, and a Mammut Barryvox transceiver for avalanche safety.
Accessing the terrain is quick and convenient. It’s just a 25-30 minute drive from RED Mountain Resort to the Staging Area, where you’ll meet for daily avalanche training. From there, it’s only about 40 minutes until you’re on top of your first run, ready to experience the thrill of backcountry skiing or riding!

Getting There
To get to Big Red Cats, you can fly to Trail, BC (YZZ) on Pacific Coastal from Vancouver or to Castlegar, BC (YCG) on Air Canada. From those airports, you can get a taxi or rent a car to Rossland/RED Mountain. Flights often get canceled due to low visibility and foggy weather.
Flying to Spokane, WA (GEG) – rent a car or take a shuttle (2.5-hour drive) – or to Kelowna Airport (YLW) – a 3.5-hour drive away – is the safest option as these airports’ landing records are ones of the best in North America and rarely cancel due to weather/visibility.
