Award-Winning Heliski in British Columbia with Snowcat Backup!
With swift access to the lodges from Terrace, BC, Northern Escape is the most accessible operator of Heliski in British Columbia. It’s among the few operators to have Snowcats on standby, ensuring you can continue skiing even on stormy days when helicopters can’t fly.
The three boutique lodges offer some of the highest comfort levels in the sport. When you pair the intimate group heli-skiing experience with our industry-leading Unlimited Vertical Option, you get the ultimate helicopter skiing vacation.
Mountains & Terrains
Northern Escape’s location, midway between Central BC and Alaska, offers the perfect blend of advantages. The northern latitude and proximity to powerful Pacific storms ensure abundant powder in our mountains, rivaling any place on the planet. Unlike regions further north, BC boasts exceptional tree skiing that remains accessible in all weather conditions, thanks to the snowcat skiing backup.
The alpine zones are characterized by massive glaciers, expansive bowls, and steep couloirs. Many of the ski runs span over 2,000 vertical meters, descending from high mountain peaks to valley bottoms filled with old-growth cedar forests and deep pillows. The Skeena and Kitimat Mountain Ranges provide unparalleled wild, big mountain adventure skiing and boarding at their finest.
The Package
Northern Escape includes Unlimited Vertical in all packages of Heliski in British Columbia, so you’ll never have to worry about extra vertical charges. On top of this, small group helicopter skiing and boarding offers the ultimate experience.
All guests are provided with the latest avalanche safety gear and are guided by our ACMG-certified heli-ski professionals. The pilots have extensive experience flying in the BC mountains, and the Agusta Koala helicopters ensure the highest level of flying safety available in the sport.
Terrace, BC, is the meeting point and is served by multiple daily direct flights from Vancouver. The team will then transfer you to the Lodge of your choice by shuttle or helicopter. No matter which package you choose, you’ll enjoy a full day of heli-skiing and boarding on your departure day (no rushed half-days here) before catching an evening flight back to Vancouver.

The Lodges
What truly sets Northern Escape apart is the relaxed, boutique-lodge atmosphere and our meticulous attention to detail. The Yellow Cedar Lodge is a quintessential Canadian mountain chalet, perched along the banks of the Skeena River, one of British Columbia’s premier fly fishing spots, and accommodates just 16 guests. The stylish Mountain Lodge, tucked deep within the Skeena Mountains and overlooking an alpine lake, offers an intimate setting for up to 10 guests. The private chalet The Skeena Spey Riverside Wilderness & Lodge redefines the standards for small-group, Private Heliski in British Columbia. All lodges are equipped with amenities such as a massage room, hot tub, ski shop, games room, cozy lounge areas, and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout.
The Red Seal Chefs craft exceptional culinary experiences using the finest locally sourced ingredients. The wine list, curated by the in-house Sommelier, features award-winning BC wines alongside select international favorites.
Snowcat Backup
When heavy snowfall makes it unsafe to fly a helicopter in the mountains, Northern Escape seamlessly switches to the Snowcat Skiing Backup. Every Heli Ski Package comes with a guaranteed seat in one of the three custom-designed Snowcats, which are always on standby and ready to go in case the Koalas can’t take off. Though down days are rare (on average less than one full day per week), they are an inevitable part of the industry. Northern Escape is among the few heli-ski operators worldwide to offer this backup service. The three custom-outfitted, heated snowcats feature forward-facing Captain’s chairs and music speakers, ensuring a comfortable ride up the slopes.
The Catland Ski Area spans more than 29 square kilometers of sub-alpine terrain with over 50 kilometers (31 miles) of snow roads. Boasting an average ski run of over 600 vertical meters, Catland is a powder paradise, featuring everything from steep tree runs, chutes, and pillow drops to wide-open bowls.
