Where is Morocco?

Morocco is located in North Africa, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Algeria to the east, and Mauritania to the south. The country is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, as well as its diverse landscapes, and its world-class waves.

The best spots for surfing in Morocco can be found along the Atlantic coast, particularly in the region around Agadir.

Taghazout – Taghazout is a small fishing village located about 20 kilometers northwest of Agadir. It is known for its beautiful beaches, surf breaks, and laid-back atmosphere. Taghazout has become a popular destination for surfers and travelers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of more developed tourist areas.

Tamraght – Small town located slightly south of Taghazout, Tamraght is renowned for its proximity to the famous wave of Banana Point. The village is also home to a number of small shops, cafes, and restaurants, as well as a weekly market where local farmers and artisans sell their products.

Imsouane – Imsouane is a small fishing village located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, about 40 kilometers northwest of the city of Agadir. Despite its growing popularity, Imsouane has managed to retain its small-town charm and traditional way of life.

Dakhla – Located in the far South of Morocco, the Dakhla peninsula is far from the crowds and is still not fully discovered. This stunning place, where the Sahara meets the Atlantic Ocean, provides over 12 amazing surf spots in a 100km radius and you will be mostly surfing alone!

Northern Morocco – The coastline between Casablanca and Rabat is blessed with consistent swells and it’s home to many uncrowded spots and unridden waves. Bouznika Plage is the most renowned spot but many other waves (including quality left-handers!) await to be surfed by the ones willing to explore further!

Safi – Safi is a city located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, about 170 kilometres southwest of the capital, Rabat. Safi is a popular destination for surfers, with a number of world-class surf breaks located in the area, and it is also a great place to experience Moroccan culture and traditions.

Best time for Surfing in Morocco

The surf season in Morocco varies depending on the location and the type of waves you are looking for. In general, the best time to surf in Morocco goes from October to March, when the waves are typically the largest and most consistent. During this time, the Atlantic coast of Morocco experiences swells from both the north and the south, and the right-hand points fire up!

During the low surfing season from April to September, there are still plenty of waves for beginners and intermediate surfers looking to improve their skills!

How to travel to Morocco?

Agadir has an international airport, Agadir Al Massira Airport, which is located about 15 kilometers south of the city center. The airport has flights to and from a number of destinations within Morocco and around the world. You can also fly to Marrakech Menara International Airport and either rent a car or get a private transfer to the selected hotel along the coast.

AWAVE Travel’s favourite Waves in Morocco!

The Moroccan coast is famous for its long and powerful waves. When all the elements combine with each other, the surf becomes mind-blowing! This destination can welcome surfers of all kinds due to its diversity. The AWAVE Travel team loves surfing there and has picked a few of our favorite waves:

Anchor Point is the most iconic surf spot in Morocco offering a variety of sections barrels, steep takeoffs, carving sections, and more! It holds big swells and on its day it produces legendary rides thanks to the sand and reef bottom.

Killers Point is one of Morocco’s best point breaks and one the most consistent in the Taghazout area. This 300m long wave has a lot to offer from speed sections, bowl sections, and barrels.

Banana Point is a user-friendly long right-hand point break located near the Village of Aourir, also called Banana village due to the many banana plantations that are grown in the river bed facing the spot.

Boilers is another right-hand point that breaks on the site of a sunken shipwreck. Shallow and with strong currents, this is a spot for advanced surfers.

Devil’s Rock is a perfect break for all levels, and one of the favorites for teaching, since it offers a big diversity of waves and has a friendly sandy bottom with occasional rocks.

Imsouane The Bay is the town’s most popular surf spot, this right-hander offers rides for up to 600 mt. One of the longest waves in Africa, it has a sand bottom, which makes it a friendly option for beginners!

Tamri is located north of Taghazout and it’s known for its long, clean waves and is suitable for all surfers. When waves are small everywhere, this swell magnet spot always delivers some fun ones!

I've used Awave twice ... so far. This is the second time I've used Awave for a trip to the maldives. Stayed in 2 different resorts this time. They've always been incredibly prompt at replying and handled everything for us, making sure the 2 Resorts were in touch to get us transfered half way through our trip. At one of the resorts I even bumped into Giulia and Delia who were out there surfing at the time. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll use awave again if I'm booking a surf trip

Indonesia Surf Trip/ Java/Bali/Sumba - James Colston was my representative from AWAVE - I’m an older solo surfer and James was attentive, respectful, extremely responsive from the initial planning stages all the way through the booking. And he was so patient with all my crazy questions along the way. I couldn’t have been more pleased with James’s level of service. Thank you James

Giulia was an amazing person to book with. I was overwhelmed with choices initially, but AWAVE knew their stuff and helped me with my options and even suggested delaying my trip so I could go to a certain hotel which ended up being the best decision I made all year.

Giulia and James were always on line to answer any question or to give an advice. The Ayada resort is perfect both for families or for couples. We did not have waves as the season goes from April to September, but there are plenty options to have fun and good times. Highly recommended both Awave and Ayada.

The AWAVE team are knowledgable and helpful. Giulia is a very helpful and patient person to deal with, and do not worry, you can trust her. I had to delay my trip to Morocco due to unforeseen circumstances and Giulia was very understanding. I have just returned from having a fantastic week at Amouage in Taghazout. Thanks AWAVE!

Awesome holiday to Hudhuranfushi. Giulia was very helpful and quick to respond and overall we were very impressed with Awave Travel.
Lohi's is a private, on site, awesome left hander that just kept giving. Also had options of 2 daily surf boat trips that went to other local breaks such as Sultans, Ninja's, Cokes, Jails. The surf team are amazing and we scored great waves the whole time we were there.
Stayed in a Sunset family beach villa which was perfect for a family of 4, then upgraded for the last 3 nights to Ocean Villas, both great for different reasons!
Island staff are so helpful and welcoming, and there's a good variety of food options available. Lots of other things to do such as paddleboarding, jet ski-ing, spa treatments, yoga and amazing snorkelling - with sharks, turtles and rays! We also hired bikes to get around and do morning surf checks!
An amazing trip, thank you Awave and Hudhuranfushi!

We had an amazing time on the Mentawai islands booked through Awave Travel.
Giulia was very helpful and available at all times during the booking process. And we had the best time on the Mentawais on the Maki Boat. The staff were amazing. Raul the surf guide was very helpful, friendly and coached us on the waves. Kaique the photographer produced top quality pictures and videos from the water, boat and drone.
Overall very happy and would highly recommend it.

We charted Seafarer for a 10 day trip in the Maldives. We booked with AWAVE about 12 months before. James was super helpful, really responsive and just easy to deal with. We even made a very last minute change to go to the central atolls which he arranged pretty much straight away. The trip itself was unreal, great surf, amazing wildlife and scenery. If you’re thinking about a surf charter, do it and book through these guys!
