Surf the uncrowded waves of Thaa Atoll, local style!

Located in the remote Thaa Atoll, on the island of Thimarafushi, Mikado Surf Camp is the perfect choice for those looking to combine an authentic Maldivian experience with great surf!

With access to many uncrowded world-class waves, Mikado is the place to be to escape the crowds of the Male Atolls and enjoy your tropical slice of paradise!

The Guesthouse

Finimas Residence is a lovely guesthouse on the island of Thimarafushi and one of the very few land-based options offering surf transfers to the waves of Mikado and Thaa Atolls.

Budget-friendly, clean and cosy, Mikado Surf Camp is a great option for those who want to experience the local culture of the Maldives. Explore the island on one of the complimentary bicycles of the guesthouse or have a walk at the white-sand beach steps away from the surf camp.

The guesthouse offers free Wifi to the guests, a lovely outdoor chill-out area, with sun chairs and boards storage.

Waves at Mikado Surf Camp

Thaa Atolls enjoy an abundance of medium-sized, perfect reef breaks, the majority of which are right-handers. Unlike other island chains, the low number of boats and accommodations in this area of the Maldives keeps crowds low.

Inside Mikado, known for its pristine barrels, is the gem of the area and under the right conditions, it becomes tropical perfection. Adonis, Outside Mikado, Finimas Right and Left are a short boat drive away from Thimarafushi.
Bowling Alley, a scenic deep-water peak and the left of Malik’s, which can offer high-quality barrels, are reachable from the surf camp with a day trip.

From March to November the swells are consistent and this is the best time of the year to surf in Thaa Atolls!

We booked a trip to Niyama Maldives (13 - 20 May 2022) with Awave.

Before deciding to go to Niyama I had close contact with Giulia about what would be the best resort for that season. Giulia responded almost immediately and gave us good and detailled advice about the surf and of course also about the resort.

We had a great trip! The resort was just prefect as well as the service! Unfortunately the waves were a bit choppy and the wind cross/ onshore, but that's mother nature....... (and May is a very difficult month for the Maldives). We still surfed every day in fun size waves and had a great time.

Would definitely recommend Niyama as well as booking with Awave!

Great communication, fantastic care and attention from James who is very knowledgeable and approachable, and the product recommended to us as an alternative, Ayada, was a real paradise. We had very high expectations and we were really impressed with everything (apart from the the quality of the surfboards for hire). :)
