Boutique Eco Surf Lodge in Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu!

Perched amid the dunes at Punta de Lobos, Hotel Alaia’s soul is world-class surfing and its connection to the sea.

The Punta de Lobos peninsula is a world-renowned and top Chilean surfing spot and a place of outstanding natural beauty, with a picturesque coastal landscape of cliffs, forests, blue and endless sea views. A five-minute drive from Pichilemu, this rugged stretch of beachfront is renowned for its reliable swells and long, left-breaking waves, which are some of the best in the southern hemisphere.

The Resort

With its simple architecture, built with native recycled wood and decorated by local artists and artisans, Hotel Alaia is an architectural expression of Chilean spirit with a good measure of environmental sustainability thrown in.

Minimalist architect Nicolas Pfenniger chose to pay homage to his homeland with black rock and native wood varieties as well as materials salvaged from the 2010 earthquake. Architectural highlights include rock chimneys and a panoramic lobby, while a skatepark and climbing boulder welcome guests at the hotel’s entrance.

Enjoy the ocean views from every corner of the hotel, the direct access to the beach and indulge in outdoor swimming or in the wood-fired hot tube.

Waves at Hotel Alaia

Punta de Lobos is one of the most iconic left-hand pointbreaks in the world and one of Chile’s best-known waves. Characterized by a number of rideable sections, it is not uncommon for the sections to connect and 800m + rides to occur during large swells.

It breaks in all conditions, from 3 to 18 ft and there are more than 300 days of guaranteed great surf per year!

Lobos is not just for XXL days either, with a rippable, sand-bottomed section known as Diamante on the inside for the groms and the pilots. Further up the point, the El Mirador section has summer peelers rotating past the shoreline rock clusters, or muscle-bound walls linking from the rocks all the way to the beach sections in a lined-up SW-W swell.

Punta de Lobos World Surfing Reserve is also part of a global biodiversity hotspot, boasting incredible marine and terrestrial resources.

The Rooms

With a big, wide window to the most stunning ocean views, these perfect sustainable havens are minimalist in spirit and tactile by design. The 12 rooms are styled with rustic minimalism, featuring polished concrete floors and timber walls that sit easily with the landscape, keeping the focus on the sweeping Pacific views, specifically towards one section of the endless wave “El Diamante”. Counting 35 sqm and decorations based in noble woods paired with local elements, you undoubtedly won’t find a better place to appreciate the beauty of Punta de Lobos.

The 6 Premium Suites of 57m2 each are oceanfront with stunning views of Punta de Lobos beach. These modern rooms feature noble materials such as wood and linen and have an outdoor hot tub with a unique view of the coast.

The Cuisine

The resort’s kitchen is characterized by being simple and focusing on ocean and earth products offered by small local producers, with the aim of enhancing the local economy. The chefs use seasonal products from artisanal practices or organic growth. The food is exceptionally fresh and of high quality.

Aligned with this philosophy, part of the offering includes rockfish chased by hand, sea-food extracted by fishermen from Punta de Lobos, salt and quinoa from Cahuil, in addition to the most exclusive selection of Chilean wines from the Colchagua Valley.

Experiences

The resort’s spirit is based on surfing and sports practised on the sea, however, Hotel Alaia offers a wide range of activities so you can take advantage of your stay in Punta de Lobos. Visit Cahuil’s lagoon and its salt mines, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and kayak or enjoy a sunset with a yoga class!

Skate Park

Black rock, upcycled after the 2010 earthquake, has been used to create that rarest of things: a high-style resort with a skatepark! Warm-up before the surf session in the super fun skate bowl of Hotel Alaia!

Hotel Alaia is located in Punta de Lobos, within the coast of the O’Higgins Region, 213 km from Santiago de Chile. By land, you can reach Pichilemu by car in 2.5 hrs through Autopista del Sol Highway. By air, you can arrive in 40 minutes from Santiago to the hotel’s helipad or local airport.

Trip of a lifetime. First and foremost I'd like to thank James Colston from Awave Travel, for assisting me in every which way to help book one of the most memorable experiences I've had in my life. He was extremely responsive and answered every single question I had, even the dumb ones haha. As for AYADA, holy dooly, that place is paradise! Absolutely breathtaking, I couldn't believe I was actually walking around such a beautiful island! Big love to the staff at Magu Restaurant, seeing as how I ate there pretty much everyday, they were amazing! Very switched on and quick off the mark to help with anything that was needed. A special mention to Dhaboa and the captain who took me out surfing! I cannot speak highly enough about their friendly, helpful and straight up on point expertise. With Dhaboa picking the spots to surf and tips on where to sit to catch the best waves on the day, to the wonderful captain himself, filming and sending me videos of the waves I caught.
Absolute legends! Made my surf trip! Best holiday I've ever been on to this date.

Reliable travel agency to book a surf trip - Both Giulia and James were very reactive and adivsed on the best options. In our case we made a boat trip in Maldives. It is the second time we use Awave Travel to do a surftrip to Maldives and we have had a very good experience in both cases. They are a reliable and trustworthy travel agency, I highly recommend them.

Professional and Top Notch! From the moment we started planning our trip AWAVE was responsive and professional. We had a lot of back and forth picking the perfect location and resort and James and Giulia were patient and helpful. The resort we stayed at, AYADA in the Maldives, was beautiful and relaxing- great for families and couples! It was perfect for us- we have 1 surfer in the family, he was able to enjoy the waves and we also were able to enjoy the reef and snorkel as a family. Our kids loved the kids club and the private pool on the beach villas was amazing. The alcohol is expensive if you don’t do full board but that is to be expected. Wonderful vacation and amazing travel agency! Definitely recommend!!

awesome last minute trip which was well communicated, friendly crew and great surf guide! waves were not the best but we realised at the time of booking that it was end of season. crew could not be more friendly and willing to help all the time - chef prepared a wide variety of food and never any complaints on that front - thanks!!!... we will be back for more!

I've used Awave twice ... so far. This is the second time I've used Awave for a trip to the maldives. Stayed in 2 different resorts this time. They've always been incredibly prompt at replying and handled everything for us, making sure the 2 Resorts were in touch to get us transfered half way through our trip. At one of the resorts I even bumped into Giulia and Delia who were out there surfing at the time. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll use awave again if I'm booking a surf trip

Indonesia Surf Trip/ Java/Bali/Sumba - James Colston was my representative from AWAVE - I’m an older solo surfer and James was attentive, respectful, extremely responsive from the initial planning stages all the way through the booking. And he was so patient with all my crazy questions along the way. I couldn’t have been more pleased with James’s level of service. Thank you James

Giulia was an amazing person to book with. I was overwhelmed with choices initially, but AWAVE knew their stuff and helped me with my options and even suggested delaying my trip so I could go to a certain hotel which ended up being the best decision I made all year.
