Private Island Getaway in French Polynesia

Ninamu Resort is an intimate island resort, hidden away on a remote motu in the southwest corner of Tikehau atoll. This little slice of paradise serves as the perfect launchpad for luxury surfers seeking perfect Polynesian waves!

Ninamu Resort offers a client-focused experience with only 10 handcrafted bungalows in the resort. This ensures that all of our guests receive personal service not found in large chain resorts.

The Resort

Ninamu Resort sits on its own small private island, fringed by perfect white sands and azure blue waters, this is a true tropical paradise. In keeping with the tropical island theme, the resort only has a total of 8 uniquely designed villas with a total of 10 rooms. This creates an intimate and exclusive feeling for travelers at the resort.

Each villa has been uniquely designed and offers the highest levels of luxury for all guests!

Waves at Ninamu Resort

This oval-shaped atoll in the Tuamotu island group strung across the South Pacific Ocean some 300 kilometres from Tahiti rewards those surfers lucky enough to make it there, with an intense tropical experience in the Pacific wilderness. North swells provide the best quality surf from Nov – April, getting to the archipelago 3-5 days later than Hawaii. Despite the large distances travelled and because they come out of deep water with nearly no shadowing en-route, they arrive with surprising ferocity and consistency, lasting about 2-3 days. The South swell season runs the majority of the year, with the peak months being May-September, but it is not uncommon to have classic SE to SW swells during the North season.

Why We Love Ninamu Resort

Year-round swells and juicy reef passes in an intense tropical experience in the Pacific wilderness!

Enjoy your own private island with only a handful of other travelers!

The unique villas. Each one offers a different style and all are built with beautiful local materials!

The Villas

Each Villa at Ninamu Resort has been carefully designed and built using sustainably sourced local materials where possible. Each villa has its own charm and provides luxurious and comfortable accommodation for couples, families, and groups!

Each villa comes with large kingsize beds, air conditioning in the indoor areas for comfort, and well fitted ensuite bathrooms. All villas have been tastefully furnished with good use of space.

The Cuisine

Ninamu Resort, even though remote and off-grid, serves a wide range of tasty and healthy meals. The resort follows the principles of permaculture, and all of their meals start with fresh, local, organic ingredients.

All of your meals at Ninamu are included in the price of your reservation. Breakfasts typically consist of cereals, homemade bread, organic honey, yogurts, jams, bacon, sausages, and eggs cooked to order. For lunches and dinners, we source organic produce, poultry, beef, and pork products. Fish is caught (oftentimes by you!) and prepared daily. You’ll dine on mahi-mahi, yellowfin, wahoo, bonito, and more. The resort can also cater to any dietary needs

Snorkel & Scuba

The onsite scuba and snorkel team are on hand for you to explore the incredible underwater world on the surrounding reefs. The area is world-renowned for water clarity, natural flora and fauna.

Fishing

The resort offers fishing from both the shore and boat with an amazing array of fish on offer! You’ll catch trevally, tuna, wahoo, snapper, mahi-mahi, bone fish, and marlin just to name a few!

Wind Sports

Wind is a consistent feature of the Tuamotu Atolls. The tradewinds blow year-round, averaging 15 knots or better, making Ninamu Resort an ideal destination for kiteboarders and windsurfers. Launch and land from their sandy beach, exploring the lagoon and adjacent sandbars.

awesome last minute trip which was well communicated, friendly crew and great surf guide! waves were not the best but we realised at the time of booking that it was end of season. crew could not be more friendly and willing to help all the time - chef prepared a wide variety of food and never any complaints on that front - thanks!!!... we will be back for more!

I've used Awave twice ... so far. This is the second time I've used Awave for a trip to the maldives. Stayed in 2 different resorts this time. They've always been incredibly prompt at replying and handled everything for us, making sure the 2 Resorts were in touch to get us transfered half way through our trip. At one of the resorts I even bumped into Giulia and Delia who were out there surfing at the time. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll use awave again if I'm booking a surf trip

Indonesia Surf Trip/ Java/Bali/Sumba - James Colston was my representative from AWAVE - I’m an older solo surfer and James was attentive, respectful, extremely responsive from the initial planning stages all the way through the booking. And he was so patient with all my crazy questions along the way. I couldn’t have been more pleased with James’s level of service. Thank you James

Giulia was an amazing person to book with. I was overwhelmed with choices initially, but AWAVE knew their stuff and helped me with my options and even suggested delaying my trip so I could go to a certain hotel which ended up being the best decision I made all year.

Giulia and James were always on line to answer any question or to give an advice. The Ayada resort is perfect both for families or for couples. We did not have waves as the season goes from April to September, but there are plenty options to have fun and good times. Highly recommended both Awave and Ayada.

The AWAVE team are knowledgable and helpful. Giulia is a very helpful and patient person to deal with, and do not worry, you can trust her. I had to delay my trip to Morocco due to unforeseen circumstances and Giulia was very understanding. I have just returned from having a fantastic week at Amouage in Taghazout. Thanks AWAVE!

Awesome holiday to Hudhuranfushi. Giulia was very helpful and quick to respond and overall we were very impressed with Awave Travel.
Lohi's is a private, on site, awesome left hander that just kept giving. Also had options of 2 daily surf boat trips that went to other local breaks such as Sultans, Ninja's, Cokes, Jails. The surf team are amazing and we scored great waves the whole time we were there.
Stayed in a Sunset family beach villa which was perfect for a family of 4, then upgraded for the last 3 nights to Ocean Villas, both great for different reasons!
Island staff are so helpful and welcoming, and there's a good variety of food options available. Lots of other things to do such as paddleboarding, jet ski-ing, spa treatments, yoga and amazing snorkelling - with sharks, turtles and rays! We also hired bikes to get around and do morning surf checks!
An amazing trip, thank you Awave and Hudhuranfushi!

We had an amazing time on the Mentawai islands booked through Awave Travel.
Giulia was very helpful and available at all times during the booking process. And we had the best time on the Mentawais on the Maki Boat. The staff were amazing. Raul the surf guide was very helpful, friendly and coached us on the waves. Kaique the photographer produced top quality pictures and videos from the water, boat and drone.
Overall very happy and would highly recommend it.

We charted Seafarer for a 10 day trip in the Maldives. We booked with AWAVE about 12 months before. James was super helpful, really responsive and just easy to deal with. We even made a very last minute change to go to the central atolls which he arranged pretty much straight away. The trip itself was unreal, great surf, amazing wildlife and scenery. If you’re thinking about a surf charter, do it and book through these guys!
