Ujung Bocur Bungalows
Quality surf camp at the famous Ujung Bocur point, South Sumatra
Set directly in front of one of South Sumatra’s most legendary left-hand reef breaks, Ujung Bocur Bungalows offers surfers a perfect blend of wave access, comfort, and chill-camp vibes. This is where surf days meet laid-back evenings by the pool!
With a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a home-from-home feel, Ujung Bocur is more than a surf camp: it’s a gateway to the coast, the swell and regional surf culture.
The Resort
Ujung Bocur Bungalows has been a staple on the Sumatra surf map for years, recently renovated so that “comfort meets style” – a surf camp that respects its surroundings while offering solid amenities.
The property combines local-material bungalows, ocean-view terraces, a pool facing the reef, and open-air communal spaces where surfers gather after a day in the water.
Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, checking the surf from the deck, or unwinding in the chill room, the camp strikes a balance between ease, community and ocean rhythm.
The Waves
Ujung Bocur is positioned at the epicentre of a coastline peppered with more than 20 surf breaks stretching 50 km long – and the reef break right in front of the camp is among the region’s most consistent.
Ujung Bocur, Sumatra’s longest left, is a 400m wall which can serve up real barrels on a good SW swell. Krui offers a range of quality reefs with Mandiri, a world-class beach break nearby. There are also 15 plus other reefs, north and south of the camp!
From mellow reefs and playful beach breaks to punchy slabs and reef walls, there’s something for a variety of levels. Seasonally, the waves shift character: from mellow, manageable surf in the offer season, to powerful, consistent groundswells during the south-east trade-wind season (May–October).
Rooms
Accommodation at Ujung Bocur Bungalows is simple, comfortable, and built with care. Bungalows are crafted from quality local hardwoods, each furnished with either two single beds or one king bed, air conditioning, mosquito nets, closet space and a private terrace to enjoy ocean or pool views. Bathrooms are spacious with open-air showers for a raw, tropical feel (though no hot water).
For larger groups or small crews, there are “Triple Ocean Rooms” — either downstairs (garden/pool/ocean view) or upstairs (best wave view), both with spacious bathrooms, and terraces overlooking garden, pool and sea. There’s also a “Traveler Room,” ideal for longer stays, offering privacy, A/C and secure storage.
Communal facilities include an open-air restaurant, a chill lounge with sofas, pool table and TV, and a swimming pool facing the ocean for a dip between waves.
The Cuisine
Meals at Ujung Bocur Bungalows come included, served in an open-air restaurant fronting the water. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients meet both Indonesian and Western-style dishes, satisfying hungry surfers whether you crave rice and curry or something more familiar.
The atmosphere is communal and relaxed – dinner often becomes a place to swap stories, celebrate waves, or just chill as the sun sets over the reef.
